One Family Health provides an innovative business model with a mission to provide access to essential drugs to marginalized populations in the developing world. The HealthStore Foundation's Child and Family Wellness (CFW) model is an effective network of clinics and micro-pharmacies whose mission is to provide access to essential medicine, basic healthcare and prevention services for children and families in rural communities.
Two outlets are incorporated in the network; the basic drug shops that are owned by community health workers and the clinics that are owned by the nurses.
The CFW model incorporates the key elements of successful franchising: uniform systems and training; careful selection of locations; and most importantly, strict controls on quality backed up by regular inspections. This model helps franchisees earn a living, while providing essential healthcare that public health systems in these countries cannot provide. This model has enabled 65 CFW locations to be established in Kenya since 2000, and OneFamilyHealth hopes to expand this Kenyan network, while establishing 240 health posts across Rwanda.
